What's the difference between a microbrewery and a brewpub?

Lets start by defining a microbrewery. A microbrewery is a brewery that produces relatively small quantities of beer (less than 15, 000 barrels per year). Many microbreweries (like Sierra Nevada), have become so successful that they can no longer be considered microbreweries. However, they are still not in the same class as the really big breweries (and that's a good thing).

A brewpub is a brewery with a pub. A brewpub isn't limited to just small brewers. As long as the beer is brewed and served on the premises it qualifies as a brewpub. Brewpubs typically include a kitchen, and in fact many offer first class menus. Brewpubs range from the trendy and upscale to the local neighborhood hangout.

Craft Beer is an American term which is also common in Canada and New Zealand and generally refers to beer that is brewed using traditional methods, without adjuncts such as rice or corn, and with an eye to what's distinctive and flavorful rather than mass appeal. Whereas the term microbrewery is a term for a small scale brewery that produces a small volume of beer, craft brewery describes an approach to brewing, which in principle may be carried out on any scale. Most microbreweries are also craft breweries; however "craft" beer can certainly also be a product of a large brewery, and there are many such products coming to market as a result of increased consumer interest in traditional beer.

A brewpub is a pub or restaurant that brews beer on the premises. Some brewpubs, such as those in Germany, have been brewing traditionally on the premises for hundreds of years. Others, such as the Les 3 Brasseurs chain in France, and the various chains in North America, are modern restaurants.

So with how Kira define brewpub it seems to be a bar or a nightclub right/ Well I don't know really how to visualize the place in real situation but as she describes it i imagined a diner serving a beer.. So therefore I already tried dining at a brewpub.

Thanks for clearing things up Kira and Bubbles, I usually think that a microbrewery and a brewpub is the same..

Thanks for the informative answer about the difference of the two business ventures. I saw some names of brewery business up there. Can you give more popular microbrewery and brewery pub types of business all over the world? or not, near your state or in your country.

Yeah, I suppose stuff in Texas is popular in Italy!

I think someone needs to buy a small globe to put on their desk and memorize where different countries and states are!

I think it is easy to visualize a brewpub Ara. A brewery that not only supplies different types of alcoholic drinks but also has a pub as an addition.

True Jill, most of the countries are unknown to many people. It is like they keep being reborn. A small globe would do you good but the details would be really minute. I can picture you concentrating your gaze on a dot.

Well there is no harm in expressing views if Ara can't imagine the view then we are here to help her and not to criticize her, it is a little annoying don't you think?

Anyway, brewpub is what Kira had described, and lots of people got confused between a brewpub and a microbrewery and it is normal. But there are reading materials available for us to lean on when we are in a bridge of confusion isn't it?

I keep learning more and more about microbreweries each day, I really think that one day I would be able to make one of my own, very soon.

Have to agree with you Chuck, but dude, we are living in a world with people who are so 'intellectual' they think they know everything, hahaha.

That is so very true Tyrone. I wish that, sometimes at least, they be "smithed with a wrath" so that they would know what is, and what is really biz.

Smithed with a wrath? What are talking about guy?

Yeah, what are trying to imply Eve? I got confused on what your statement would really mean. I just hope that you do explain your post soon.

And to Tyrone, well there are certainly lots of people who are just like that, my other half called them 'smart ass' and I think that you cannot really tell if a person is really smart or just a smart ass. Thanks a lot.

That is a warm message that you put in here Jill and moy, you both are great when it comes to giving out information. You certainly are not mocking and making any sarcastic messages there. Hahaha, I have to agree that there are indeed smart asses in the world. If only people would learn how to think of what other people might feel. Have a good day everyone and keep those posts coming in.
